Dance in the Middle Years
Hi All
I teach Dance to Grade 7 & 8 in the Middle school at International School Manila. It is a mixed ability dance class - which a variety of levels and experiences. I approach the class as a mixture of creative movement, with a little bit of technique thrown in. Students devise small sections for the overall performance and I put it all together as well as teach them sections - like an artistic director. The students take the subject as an optional subject for a semester. We have two levels - Dance Revolutions and dance Remix. Revolutions is first level and students take Remix usually after they have done a semester of Revolutions.
Students usually create two dance performances a semester. If they are in first semester, the first dance focuses on Filipinannia- a celebration of an aspect of living in the Philippines. The end of the semester is bases around a theme chosen by the after school dance teachers.
